Westridge Lookout Sunset

Westridge Lookout Sunset

I ARRIVED at a lookout on top of the D'Aguilar Range about half way between Mount Nebo and Mount Glorious shortly before sunset. Cirrus clouds were streaming in from the west.

The Brisbane Valley stretched out from north to south beyond the foothills of the range. The sun set and the valley quickly darkened. The day had ended and it appeared the darkness of night had arrived, with the vibrant colours of the day passing to the monochromes of the waxing moon just past its first quarter almost directly overhead.

The sun had one last show before retiring for the night. It shone across the top of the atmosphere brilliantly illuminating the high cloud of altitudes higher than the tallest mountains on Earth. The suspension of desert dust accentuated the brilliant reds and oranges above the blackened valley below.
