Halong Bay

Halong Bay

THERE is perhaps nothing more exotic than cruising on a wooden junk through a labyrinth of tiny islands impenetrable on all sides by vertical walls of rock towering out of the soft turquoise water. The distant islands are obscured by haze adding to the mysteriousness of Halong Bay.

Here the strange islands seem to slide past each other constantly changing the fenglin landscape as we cruise through placid waters.

Aside from several junks and the occasional scattering of the brightly coloured huts of the floating fishing villages, the land, sea and sky are all very quiet in anticipation of an approaching typhoon.
